Killings and abductions continue in Chechnya

Publication time: 28 November 2009, 09:31

According to local sources in Chechnya, gang members of Kadyrov grabbed two civilians on November 21-22.

A resident of mountainous Shatoi district of Chechnya was accused with assisting of food to a mobile group of Chechen Mujahideen in nearby Urus Martan district, since September 2009. Apostates grabbed him and claimed that the hostage confessed that he was planning to join Chechen Mujahideen.

The second hostage is 48 year old, a resident of Jokhar (former Grozny). The Kadyrovites accused that he was a member of Arbi Barayev's unit and left from his group shortly before the end of first Russian-Chechen war.

On the other hand, Russian occupiers introduced the "counter-terrorism operation regime" (CTO) in Achkoi-Martan district of Chechnya since midnight of 23-24 November. Let's remember that Urus-Martan district was imposed to the counter-terrorism operation in the beginning of this November.

Suspected militant killed in Chechnya

23/11/2009

A suspected militant was killed in Chechnya when police encountered a group of over 10 gunmen in the Caucasus republic's Shali district, a police official said on Monday.

The shootout occurred on Sunday in a mountainous wooded area, the police source said.

"The gunmen opened fire, one of them was killed when police returned fire, the others fled," he said, adding that no police were injured in the attack.

The gunman is being identified, the official said.

Attacks on police and other officials have been reported almost daily as fighting has resurged in Chechnya, which saw two brutal separatist conflicts in the 1990s and early 2000s. Violence has also spiraled in neighboring regions of Russia's mainly Muslim North Caucasus.

Ramzan Kadyrov announced that in the next several days, the counter terrorism operations in Chechnya will be declared complete; a few days later the Kremlin declared that the counterterrorist operation in Chechnya was over. In order to understand what is, in the opinion of the Kremlin and Kadyrov, now concluded, one would do well to know what the Russian forces and special services have been dealing with in Chechnya since October of 1999, when the counterterrorism operation officially began.  The operation was presented as a response to the invasion of militants into Dagestan and the bombing of buildings in Volgodansk, Buynaksk, and Moscow.

Counterterrorism operations were not exactly another front against al-Qaeda:  Chechnya proved to be independent of the Global Jihad.  In Chechnya there were foreign mercenaries and foreign funds which were provided as war funds, but Chechnya still did not become a base ...
