One killed in Chechnya

Russian military men were fired at in Chechnya's Shali district. One contract serviceman was killed and three were wounded. The rebels managed to run away, Radio Liberty's correspondent says.

In turn, the Chechen separatist website Kavkaz-Center quotes rebels as saying that 18 military men and supporters of the federal centre were killed and at least 25 were wounded in the last two days in the course of military operations, ambushes, and shootings in various districts of Chechnya.

A source from among Chechen commanders reports that the operations were conducted in the districts of Vedeno, Itum-Kali, and Kurachaloi, as well as in the city of Grozny. Rebels carried out 39 attacks on federal servicemen in the past two days, according to the Chechen separatists. Reportedly, they also conducted six targeted special operations destroying five agents of Russian special services.
