Jerusalem (dpa) - Russia is considering building a barrier along the border with Chechnya similar to the one Israel is building along the West Bank, the Jerusalem Post daily reported Tuesday.

Premier Ariel Sharon and Public Security Minister Gideon Ezra met Monday with Dmitry Kozak, head of counterterrorism in Chechnya and the Kremlin's envoy to southern Russia, for talks which officials said focused primarily on the construction of a security fence.

Kozak told the participants he would bring the issue up back in Russia and recommend it as a viable means of fighting attacks.

"They want to learn more about fighting terror," former Israel Police chief Shlomo Aharonishky, who is serving as a consultant for the Russians, told the Israeli daily.

"Kozak has been assigned to prepare a plan on how to fight terror and it ...

JERUSALEM - The top Kremlin representative to Chechnya is studying counterterrorism methods in Israel, an Israeli participant in the meetings said Tuesday.

The visitor, Dmitry Kozak, is Russian President Vladimir Putin's envoy to the southern Russian region that includes Chechnya and neighboring republics that have been hit by militant attacks.

Kozak and his team are on a five-day visit to Israel to study how Israel's security forces cooperate and divide responsibility, said Shlomo Aharonishki, the head of the National Security Project, a consulting firm.

"They came to learn about Israel's readiness in the fight against terrorism and its methods ... they know they are dealing with problematic and complex terrorism and it's global," said Aharonishki, Israel's former police commissioner.

The Jerusalem Post daily reported Tuesday that Israel is advising Russia ...
