Aushev brothers kidnapped in Chechnya were kept in Urus-Martan

Magomed Maksharipovich Aushev, 22, and Magomed Osmanovich Aushev, 25, who were kidnapped by a group of unidentified power agents on September 18, were first kept in the Urus-Martan District and then transferred to the mountain Shatoy District of Chechnya.

This is the opinion of Aslambek Apaev, expert of the Moscow Helsinki Group (MHG) for Northern Caucasus and chairman of the Committee for Defence of Rights of Forced Migrants.

"The brothers were captured in Chechnya after a telephone call from the FSB Department for North Ossetia. I'm strongly convinced that nobody was going to leave the guys alive. The agents had planned to kill them. Their passports were taken away and burnt; they also took away their waist belts and mobile phones. The kidnappers, obviously employees of power agencies, brought the Aushev brothers to Urus-Martan, where they were beaten and tortured, and ...

Russian generals: no troops withdrawal from Chechnya
Publication time: 20 October 2007, 18:23
On October 3, Yakov Nedobitko, the commander of the Russian Joint Military Group in Chechnya, told the newspaper Nezavisimya gazeta that it was too early to talk about disbanding the Joint Military Group in the republic. The general added that during this fall and winter, "the mission procedures and scope of the Group in Chechnya will not fundamentally change." Nedobitko's statement means that one should not expect any real changes or troop withdrawals from Chechnya in the near future. In August 2006, President Vladimir Putin issued a decree that called for the military "to submit by December 15, 2006, in accordance with the established procedure, proposals for how to reorganize the Joint Military Group assuming a stage-by-stage withdrawal in 2007-2008 of the Interior Ministry's internal troops and units of the Armed ...
