THE CHECHEN RESISTANCE MOVEMENT: 2006 IN REVIEW
January 11, 2007
By Mayrbek Vachagaev

In looking back on the events of 2006 in the Northern Caucasus, it is impossible not to notice the significant political and strategic changes that have affected the Chechen resistance movement. The tactics used by the previous leaders of the movement—Abdul-Khalim Sadulaev and Shamil Basaev—constantly threatened the Russian government forces with unexpected blows across the entire region. During their tenure, the goal of shifting most of the actual fighting out of Chechnya proper and into the nearby regions was almost fully accomplished and today, the dzhamaats in Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, and Karachaevo-Cherkessia are quite active, forcing the Russian government to spread its security forces across the entire region of the Northern Caucasus.

The accidental killing of Abdul-Khalim Sadulaev, who was both the president of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria and the leader of ...

Moscow Reports: There are No Mojaheds Already
Publication time: 16 January 2007, 14:40
The Kremlin regime again and again declares the victory over Chechnya, once again preaching a theme of so-called amnesty, in result of which "500 insurgents" have ostensibly taken advantage already.

Amnesty which repeatedly appeared Moscow during the last years, every time was accompanied by applications for stabilization of a situation on Caucasus. We can remind, that all for 7 years of war there were 7 amnesties, on one on every year wars.

Well-known, that, despite of full-scale war with monstrous human losses, huge weights of armies, army operations and face-to-face fights which long time occurred in Chechnya and constantly extending zone of guerrilla war almost in all territory of Northern Caucasus, Moscow from the very beginning tried and tries to present the Russian-Caucasian war as police operation till now.
