Militants commit terror acts in Chechnya aiming to win a pause, power agents assert

aug 24 2009, 20:00

The Chechen MIA believes that militants are committing terror acts with the use of suicide bombers with the aim to distract power agencies from broad-scale special operations in the mountains. President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov has stated that in no case the intensity of operations conducted against armed underground groupings will go down.

A source in the Chechen MIA said in his conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent: "The two latest terror acts in the Chechen capital, same as the explosions committed in May-July, and not only in the territory of Chechnya, but also in the neighbouring Ingushetia, are aimed, first of all, at venting the pressure on the militants who hide in the mountains of both republics."

According to his story, in the time that elapsed from the start of large-scale special operations against members of illegal armed formations (active actions against the armed underground with involvement of practically all units of Chechen MIA are held from May 16) power agents managed to liquidate not only dozens of militants but also plenty of their bases and hideouts.

"Militants have lost their opportunity to easy pass over from one region to another; they are forced to constantly change places to escape detection and liquidation," said the source.

According to his story, militants understand perfectly well that should they fail to equip their new bases, stock foodstuffs and other necessary things before autumn, they will not survive in winter in the mountains and forests.
