October 15, 2007
Commander Muhannad AKA Abu Anas, the Commander of the Eastern Front in Chechnya, delivered a message congratulating Muslims on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, urging them to give support in the form of money and prayers to the Mujahideen. The message is contained in a 4:52 minute video distributed by the Kavkaz Center, a media outlet for Chechen insurgents, on Saturday, October 13, 2007, posted to the YouTube video sharing service and also distributed to jihadist forums. He declares that the state of jihad in the Caucasus is well and youth are seeking to join the ranks of the Mujahideen in large numbers; however, Muhannad complains of a lack of reserve weapons and that many of these youths are turned away due to this shortage. Though they are still able to procure weapons from “infidel” sources with money, the siege by Russia on the area makes it difficult despite the availability. Muslims, then, are encouraged to provide money and anything which may support the Chechen Mujahideen.
Muhannad adds: “We ask everyone in the Islamic Ummah to send us and every Mujahid letters, and our website is known. And if we can, we will respond to these letters because the human being cannot live without the support and advice of scholars.”
