On the morning of October 7, in a forest tract on the outskirts of the village of Dargo in the Vedensky region, a skirmish occurred the between authorities and a group of fighters, according to an October 8 report from the SNO (Council of NGOs in Chechnya) information center. Automatic weapons were fired at three motor vehicles carrying "siloviki" (officials).
As a result of the attack, at least, four soldiers were killed and ten received injuries of different degrees of gravity. Local residents assert that the skirmish lasted about 30 minutes.
The area where the attack occurred was later blocked by servicemen and local law-enforcement officers, who conducted a "cleansing" operation of the area. According to existing information, three of those killed were soldiers of a battalion of Special Forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, the "South" division.
