Vedeno reg head, police department chief attacked in Chechnya

GROZNY, June 14 (Itar-Tass) -- The head of the Vedeno region and the chief of the regional police department came under fire in Chechnya, both of them got injuries.
As ITAR-TASS learnt at the Interior Ministry of the republic, the incident occurred in the motor road between the villages of Verkhniye Kurchali and Belgatoi, 500 metres to the northwest of the village of Belgatoi on Wednesday at 15.20 Moscow time. The administration head and officers of the Vedeno Interior Department were coming back to Kurchali in several cars. At that moment unidentified persons fired at the cars from submachine-guns and under-barrel grenade launchers.
“As a result, head of the regional administration Ali Sinbarigov, acting chief of the Interior Department for the Vedeno region Rasul Isayev, as well as two police officers got shrapnel injuries,” a representative of the ministry said. Three cars got technical damages.
After the attack, a plan-interception was introduced in the region and targeted checks to search for the persons involved in the attack were carried out.
Besides, an armed clash between servicemen of the 42nd brigade of the Defence Ministry and the Military Commandant’s Office and gunmen occurred in Chechnya’s Shatoi region five kilometres to the southwest of the village of Khal-Kiloi. As a result of the clash, one gunman was destroyed, his identity is being established.
