GROZNY, September 21 (Itar-Tass) - The police in the UAZ vehicle that came under fire in Grozny were officers from the Sverdlovsk region, sources close to the investigation, told Itar-Tass on Thursday.
"When the UAZ was driving along the Staropromyslovskoye highway, bursts of automatic fire suddenly sounded as it was passing a bus stop. As a result of the attack, five people were killed. Four died on the spot and one on the way to hospital," Chechen police told Tass.
The Chechen Interior Ministry confirmed that the attack took place near the village of Katayama at approximately 12:00, Moscow time. The fatalities are Sverdlovsk police officers, attached to the Chechen police unit in Grozny's Staropromyslovsky district.
A search for the attackers is underway. According to preliminary information, there were at least two gunmen. A group of investigators is working at the scene. They are inspecting the scene of the attack and questioning witnesses.
