A screen grab from the Russian NTV channel shows a Russian special forces soldier taking position at the area of special operation in the Leninsky district in Grozny, the Chechen capital. VLADIKAVKAZ, Russia (AFP) - Six people were hurt when a car bomb exploded near the Chechen capital Grozny as a jeep belonging to a senior Russian military officer was driving past, local officials said.

The target appears to have been Major General Said-Selim Tsuev who was not in the jeep at the time.

The incident took place Saturday near a Russian military base at Khankala.

"A Zhiguli (car) exploded 200 metres from a control post as the jeep was passing after leaving Khankala," a local official said.

"It was probably an attack against me," said Tsuev, quoted by the ITAR-TASS news agency.

"My driver and a guard were wounded by the explosion.

They were badly hurt." Elsewhere in Chechnya three soldiers in the pro-Moscow forces were wounded in a 24 hour period after their positions came under fire, pro-Russian sources said.

Four more were hurt when a military truck was attacked in the Itum-Kale region in southern Chechnya.

A bomb disposal expert was killed near Khankala as he attempted to make safe an explosive device and two bodies of pro-Russian Chechen policemen were found in different places, each shot dead.
