Clashes erupted in the capital Nalchik between local students and policemen coming from Chechnya...

Human rights campaigner Valerii Khatazhukov reported that the Chechen policemen fired into the air before being arraigned by local police. No casualties were reported.

Policemen shot dead in Nalchik

NALCHIK. July 23 (Interfax) - Two traffic police officers were killed in a shootout with unidentified gunmen in Nalchik, the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, on the night of Saturday, local police sources told Interfax.

It was the second attack on policemen in the republic over the past two days.

The incident occurred on the city's Profsoyuznaya Street at 2:55 a.m. Moscow time, one of the sources said.
