(RTTNews) - At least eight people, including two security personnel and six militants, were killed in a military operation in Russia's volatile southern republic of Ingushetia on Monday, according to officials and Russia media reports.
Media reports indicated that the fighting between the security forces and rebels erupted in Ingushetia's Sunzhensky district, near the border with Chechnya. Police officials said that two other security officials were injured in the fighting, which is still continuing.
Russian authorities meanwhile said the militants are resisting fiercely despite being surrounded by security forces. Re-enforcements have been rushed to the scene of the fighting.
