Officials say five police officers and a soldier have been wounded by militants in Russia's troubled southern province of Ingushetia.

Svetlana Gorbakova of the local branch of Russia's top investigative body says three policemen were wounded Wednesday when their vehicle hit a land mine.

The regional branch of Russia's Interior Ministry said two other police officers and a soldier were also wounded in the region Wednesday in separate attacks. It said militants also fired at a house where two police officers lived, but no one was hurt.

Ingushetia borders Chechnya to the west in Russia's North Caucasus mountains. It has been plagued for years by violence that spilled over from Chechnya after two recent wars.
