Georgian minister of defense defies words of attack Although Georgian Minister of Defense says that all Georgian troops are currently located in their bases, it is evident from the recent pictures of Kodor that the Georgia army is nowadays busy increasing its build-up there. Tbilisi - Although the Georgian army has placed some of its troops as well as military equipments along its borders both with the Kodor region of Abkhazia and with South Ossetia, the administration of Georgia said that Georgia would not launch an attack. The Briefing: Russia-Georgia Tensions Over Abkhazia
Tensions are as high as they have been in 15 years over Georgia's breakaway region of Abkhazia, where "frozen" conflict has given way to heated rhetoric, the downing of Georgian spy drones, and thinly veiled threats.
The most serious verbal jousting has been between Moscow, which says it is boosting its peacekeeping presence in Abkhazia, and Tbilisi, which has urged international help to persuade Abkhaz sponsors in Russia to "back off."

Russia prepares for lengthy battle over Ukraine Publication time: 14 May 2008, 21:45 Russia's pro-Kremlin mass media lauded the recent NATO decision in Bucharest to delay issuing Membership Action Plans (MAPs) to Ukraine and Georgia, hailing it as a victory for departing President Vladimir Putin. However, many serious pundits in Russia have been less smug. They appear to regard the objections formulated by Germany and France as temporary obstacles and think that NATO remains bent on including Kyiv and Tbilisi around its table. Ukraine is of particular concern, because, as the emerging neo-nationalist ideology in Russia argues, without that country, Moscow cannot restore its status as "the center of power in Eurasia." "NATO membership for Ukraine means death for Russia," nationalist publisher Aleksandr Prokhanov has said. At the same time, Russia's ruling elite is acutely aware of its significant geoeconomic interests in Ukraine, particularly since Ukraine and Belarus are the main conduits for Russian hydrocarbon ... >> full
