"On day when in the State Duma of Russian Federation they will discuss the Reference of Abkhazian Parliament to Russian leadership about recognition of independence of Abkhazia and establishment of the associated relations with Russian Federation, the Abkhazian people once again will confirm its aspiration to independence", - the vice-premier of the Abkhazian government Leonid Lakerbaja declared.
Speaking about the forthcoming national gathering in Sukhumi, Leonid Lakerbaja notified that at the meeting representatives of the multinational people of Abkhazia are going to address to the world community with request for de jure recognition of Abkhazia’s independence. He also added that at the gathering the idea on Abkhazia’s integration with Russia won’t be discussed. "To take part in the national gathering is the point of honour for everyone to who are not indifferent to the destiny of Abkhazia, who wish to see it a democratic and independent state," – the vice-premier stated. "Recognition of independence is a hard way. It is much more difficult to defend freedom. In 1999 we had already organized the referendum, and the national gathering is one more reminder that we build really independent state", - Leonid Lakerbaja emphasized.
