A senior judge of Untsukulsky District in the North Caucasus Republic of Dagestan was killed in Makhachkala, local police said on Saturday.

"The body of the senior judge of Dagestan's Untsukulsky District was found with gunshot wounds in the Volga car in Makhachkala's academic community," the police said, adding the operational investigative group is working at the spot of the crime.

The murders of the judges became notorious cases in North Caucasus Republics. In June the justice of peace, Abdurakhman Gamzatov, was shot dead in the village of Untsukul in his house. He was allegedly shot from the gun.

In April, 2008, a deputy chairman of Ingushetia's Supreme Court, Khasan Yandiyev, was killed in the city of Karabulak after unidentified assailants ambushed his Mercedes car and sprayed him with fire. The judge died of wounds at the scene of the incident.

After the prosecutor's check in relation to Nariman Abdurazakov, former head of the Kayakent District of Dagestan, a criminal case was opened. He is suspected of excess of power.

The check conducted by the Prosecutor's Office of the Kayakent District dealt with the observance of land legislation by this municipal formation. The check revealed serious violations by the administration of the Kayakent District.

As reported by the Prosecutor's Office, reliable facts have been obtained that after 2008 Nariman Abdurazakov, administration head of the Kayakent District, issued decisions, in violation of the land legislation, about granting land plots on the free-of-charge basis to 44 citizens for individual housing construction.

"These plots are located on the shore of the Caspian Sea in the specially protected area and are in federal ownership. The use of these lands for other purposes is restricted or prohibited," said ...

Additional Russian Troops Dispatched To Dagestan

On September 28 in Khasavyurt, Dagestan, Interior Ministry Major-General Viktor Knyazhev announced that a temporary contingent of the ministry’s Internal Troops had been deployed to Dagestan. The general stated the purpose of the deployment was to help the local law enforcement agencies to stabilize the situation in the republic and provide public safety for the period of the electoral campaign in the run up to municipal elections on October 10. The exact number of additional troops is unknown, but bloggers reported that dozens of tanks, armored personnel carriers and trucks had arrived in the republic. The general said that Dagestan had been divided into five operative zones that were fully covered by the Interior Ministry units. Knyazhev promised there would be additional checkpoints and that the military would operate only with the consent of the local authorities ...
