Plane Crash Kills Brother Of Daghestani President

The wreckage of the Daghestan Airlines' Tu-154

December 05, 2010
Russia today announced that a crash landing at a Moscow airport on December 4 killed the brother of the president of the country's republic of Daghestan in the North Caucasus.

The Daghestan Airlines plane had 169 people on board when it rolled off a runway at Moscow's Domodedovo airport and broke into three pieces, killing two passengers and injuring more than 80 people.

It was not immediately clear whether Gadzhimurad Magomedov, the brother of the president of Daghestan, died in the crash or later in the hospital.

There were conflicting reports as to the name of the other victim, who is reported to have been a woman.

The plane was the same model as the one that killed Polish President Lech Kaczynski and 90 others in a high-profile crash in April.

Daghestan is a volatile, mostly Muslim province near the Caspian Sea.

Russia's 21 republics either have presidents or regional heads appointed by the Russian president.
