MOZDOK, Dagestan -- An explosion on the Mozdok-Kazimagomed natural-gas pipeline in the Russian republic of Daghestan has killed a local law enforcement officer, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.
The explosion occurred on April 10 during demining work along the pipeline. Two mines found on the pipeline apparently had timing devices.
The deminers used a robot to defuse the second mine.
Daghestan is one of the more volatile regions in Russia's North Caucasus.
