From: MSN NicknameEagle_wng (Original Message) Sent: 7/16/2006 12:08 PM Basayev’s Mysterious Death Brings Hope The death of the most notorious Chechen warlord suggests an end to conflict in the North Caucasus could be in sight. By Timur Aliev in Ali-Yurt, Ingushetia Russia’s most wanted man, Chechen militant leader Shamil Basayev may have met his end by accident rather than in a deliberate hit as Russian leaders claim, but his death certainly marks a major victory for Moscow and could result in the armed conflict beginning to ebb away. Ground zero for this major development is the edge of Ali-Yurt, a small village in Ingushetia not far from the border with Chechnya. A row of unfinished houses still lacking doors and windows stands here, facing a road that is little more than a track, a hillside, a ravine, some fields and trees. Few people live in this secluded spot, even though it is just five kilometres from ... >> full

From: MSN NicknameEagle_wng (Original Message) Sent: 7/16/2006 2:36 PM Sheikh Abdul-Halim: the Sign of Allah Publication time: 16 July 2006, 12:18 Daymohk news website has published a picture of murdered Chechen president Sheikh Abdul-Halim. On the picture the baked blood in the form of Arabian letters of a name of Supreme - the word of Almighty Allah is sharply sealed! This picture was taken right away after the enemy has found out the body of the Sheikh after the gun battle in the town of Argun was ended. The enemy has not yet had time to mock at the body of Amir of Mujahideen, and to put it on a public display in humiliating (as it seems to them) pose. But most of all amazing is the fact that on ... >> full

Moscow Will Offer Amnesty to Rebels By Simon Saradzhyan Staff Writer Federal Security Service chief Nikolai Patrushev announced Tuesday that the government would offer amnesty to rebel fighters in the North Caucasus in an apparent attempt to thin the ranks of insurgent and terrorist groups in the area following the death of notorious warlord Shamil Basayev. Patrushev told reporters that the National Anti-Terrorist Committee, which he chairs, was drafting an amnesty bill intended to provide fighters "who have been deceived by the ringleaders and lured into criminal activity" with "the chance to return to a peaceful life." The committee, which includes Russia's top law enforcement officers and other key ministers, would send the amnesty bill to the Kremlin for approval before submitting it to the State Duma, Patrushev said. The FSB chief did not specify which crimes would be covered by the amnesty. Instead, he reiterated his call for rebels in Chechnya and the other North ... >> full
