CHECHNYA: WAR PROFITTEERS EXPLOIT DISABLED Chechen amputees fear corruption is preventing them from getting artificial limbs. By Aminat Abumuslimova in Grozny As usual, the Khasavyurt-Argun taxi stand is boisterous. Taxi drivers rush about searching for clients, stopping passers-by. But one of the drivers sits impassively at the wheel of his old Oka car – a tiny, boxy Soviet relic with hand controls which the state once produced especially for handicapped people. Ruslan Batalov is a former member of the Chechen government’s special-purpose police detachment. He was disabled on the night of November 9, 2001, when his hometown of Argun was heavily shelled. Jule, 28, 2005 A Challenge to the Whole Chechen Society When the tormented Chechen people combats against the external aggressor and traitors, a new kind of an anonymous virtual wrecker, an offender of the honor of the Chechen families has appeared. This time the impact is directed to the honor of the most easily vulnerable, inexperienced part of the Chechen society, to the honor of the youth - young men and girls, who without that are injured with the devilish, inhuman war. Several years ago Digaev Albert, an inutile Chechen, escaped to America together with his sister. Instead of to try to help the Chechen Republic from the richest country of the world, he has opened an Internet site "Amina", on which he places photos of the Chechen youth with offensive, obviously false comments under the photos, that is, by the American method "advertising scandals" to attract more clients to the site.
