THE VAINAKHS
(THE CHECHEN AND INGUSH)
"Caucasian House”
Tbilisi
2001, 2009
The first edition of the book «Vainakhs» in the English language, published in 2001 was sold out in a short period of time. Many readers highly appreciated the work and there were requests to publish the second edition. This book is the repetition of the text of the first edition and it covers the history of Vainakh people – the Chechens and the Ingush – from the ancient times to 2001.
We once again thank Mr. Friedrich Höffer who supported the publishing of the first edition of «Vainakhs».
Editor N. Gelashvili

CHECHENPRESS: Statement By Mr. Akhmed Zakaev, Chairman Of The ChRi Cabinet Of Ministers

Statement by Mr. Akhmed Zakaev, Chairman of the ChRi Cabinet of Ministers

June, 22rd 2010

Council of Europe, Strasbourg, 22 June 2010

I welcome the report from Dick Marty and the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights on the situation in the Northern Caucasus, and in particular in the Chechen Republic, where I have very clear views as one of the parties to the military-political conflict about the underlying causes of the unending state terror.

I would state that no window dressing about the so-called "rejuvenated” Chechen Republic can serve as a compensation for 250 000 lives of our countrymen, sacrificed on the altar of freedom and independence of our motherland – or for the ongoing violence.
Hence the quotation from the esteemed Rudolf Bindig about the "need to establish a war tribunal to provide a legal evaluation in the Chechen Republic over the entire period of hostilities.”

Let me remind you that it is the ...

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has arrived in Chechnya in a surprise visit following a series of attacks on police officers and civilians in the North Caucasus region.

The Russian president is expected to meet with pro-Moscow Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov in the capital city of Grozny to discuss challenges facing the predominantly Muslim provinces in southern Russia.

Earlier this month, five people were killed in Chechnya's border region with Ingushetia.

Akhmed Zakayev’s Petition for journalist Yelena Maglevannaya

June, 12rd 2010

Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of CRI, Akhmed Zakayev appealed to the President of Finland Tarja Halonen with a petition for political asylum for a journalist and human rights activist Yelena Maglevannaya. The text of the petition was provided to the editorial of CP for publication by the press service of the Government of the CRI, and in particular says:

I appeal to you to facilitate an early solution on granting political asylum to a journalist Yelena Maglevannaya.

In Russia, independent-minded journalists who criticized the government, especially on such an unpleasant topic for the Russian leadership, as its aggression against Chechnya are persecuted. Some of them, as Anna Politkovskaya and Natalya Estemirova, were killed, others, as Boris Stomakhin and Pavel Lyuzakov, were imprisoned. It is certain to say that freedom of speech in Russia is completely absent.

Yelena Maglevannaya has also been prosecuted for ...

Chechens never forget genocide commited by Russia...

 To Mr. Avigdor Lieberman,
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel
June 7, 2010

I certify my respects to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel and have the honor to declare a decisive protest against your irresponsible statements according to the tragedies in the Mediterranean Sea, killing at least nine people out of humanitarian convoy.

As the world's media reports today, you, Mr. Lieberman, state: "The organizers of the humanitarian convoy are those who previously supported the Chechen separatists and at the moment maintain relations with the Chechen guerrillas”.

It is possible that after this "declaration" you, Mr. Lieberman will get the Prime Minister of Russia’s compliments, who is accused by the Chechen people for crimes against humanity. Nevertheless, I have the honor to remind you of a very simple rule: "You can not be sure that you get everything that you have already paid for, but ...
