Ichkeria's funeral (weekly review)

By Vadim Borshchev, special to Prague Watchdog

Ramzan Kadyrov has managed to restore to life the tradition of public repentance, a genre which after the collapse of the totalitarian Soviet system seemed to have receded into the past forever. The second programme in the “Fulcrum” series, in which Ramzan Kadyrov appears in the role of presenter, was aired on Grozny television last Friday. This time the challenge of their task was more wide-ranging. Those who took part in the four-hour tele-marathon did not only have to denounce their own pasts and portray the mediocrity of the Ichkerian leaders in colourful terms – Kadyrov decided to draw a line under the Chechen ...

THT ChRI MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS PRESS RELEASE
June, 3rd 2009

SNA CHECHENPRESS, Official information section, June, 1st 2009

According to reports by a number of media and other sources several dozen Chechen citizens have been arrested by the immigration authorities of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The arrests took place at night, without any warning or prior criticisms of the detained’ stay in Egypt. The arrests were marked by roughness and abasement of human dignity typical of Arab countries’ law enforcement agencies’ treatment of people, including their own citizens.

There has been no official explanation of the arrests from the country’s authorities leading to rumours and speculations and dealing an indisputable blow to the Egyptian leadership’s reputation.

Despite the fact that the abovementioned arrests and detention of the ChRI citizens have been generating many rumours, largely through the fault of the official authorities in Egypt, the ChRI Ministry of Foreign Affairs based on its own ...

OLGA KONSKAYA
May, 31st 2009

SNA CHECHENPRESS, Official information section, May, 31st 2009

The Government of the CRI expresses its deepest condolences to Andrei Nekrasov because of the untimely death of his wife, Olga Konskaya. Olga’s devoted and selfless work for the sake of spreading the truth about the genocide in Chechnya, perpetrated by the Kremlin leadership, deserves the highest moral recognition, respect and gratitude of the whole of the Chechen people. Olga has unflinchingly and consistently came out in favour of independent statehood of the Chechen republic, in the marked contrast to many members of Russian human rights and “democratic” community who toe the Kremlin’s line in the matter of the violation of the basic rights of an entire nation.

Olga has done a lot for the cause of preservation of the language and culture of the Chechens forced into exile by war and the state sponsored terror. It was to the refugees’ ...
