Rally held in Grozny against sending of Chechen conscripts to Russian regions

By Ruslan Isayev

GROZNY, Chechnya – A rally was held in Grozny today against the sending of Chechen conscripts to serve in army regiments located in the Russian regions. The protest action, in which more than 30 people took part, was organized by the recently-created Public Chamber of the Chechen Republic.

The rally’s participants – parents of young men of call-up age – expressed their unwillingness to let their children go to Russia to do their military service.

Nearly all the parents agree that their sons must serve in the army, but only within the borders of Chechnya.

“We need to restore the republic. By all means let them help in the city’s reconstruction, but I don’t want my three sons to be ...

Subject: [SCC] Help needed: Chechen Translator to translate historic Chechen songs/ballads
To: newsletter@savechechnya.org

Dear Supporter,

The Save Chechnya Campaign needs help in translating a selection of Chechen
songs and ballads into English. He/she must have a good command of English
and of course an excellent knowledge of the Chechen language. The
translations need not in perfect English however they should capture the
full meaning of the words/lyrics. Even if someone has the time to do one
song only, then even that would still be very helpful in moving this project
forward.

The project is to put together an anthology of Chechen songs and ballads
which express Chechen experiences and emotions through the suffering of past
and present conflicts.

Some of the songs are sung by the Imam Alimsultanov who was assassinated in
the First War. His music was synonymous with Chechen Resistance and he can
well ...

LONDON — More than 1,000 journalists and their support staff have died in the past decade, with Iraq and Russia topping the list as the deadliest countries for the profession, according to a report released Tuesday.

Most of those killed were men who died in their home countries. Nearly half were shot. Others were blown up, beaten to death, stabbed, tortured or decapitated.

The vast majority of those killed were on staff — 91 percent versus 9 percent freelance, according to the report from the Brussels-based International News Safety Institute.

Only one in eight deaths resulted in prosecution.

"This report breaks new ground in capturing how dangerous the pursuit of news has become," said Tom Curley, president and CEO of The Associated Press.

Aslan Maskhadov's memory
Publication time: 8 March 2007, 19:45

"The slave not aspiring to leave slavery, deserves double slavery",-these are words of the first President of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, Dzhohar Dudayev, it is possible to consider as the motto of 400-years struggle of Chechen people for independence, writes edition КНН in connection with second anniversary of destruction of Chechen President Aslan Maskhadov.

The Russian propaganda machine strives to present struggle of Chechen people as gangsterizm and terrorism, however Aslan Maskhadov's example has denied this false propagation and has shown, that battling people is headed by competent and noble leaders.

At that time when the Native land required it, Aslan has joined numbers of fighters for independence. His life and death are bright acknowledgement of that Chechens and slavery of concept are not compatible.

Nobody will be possible to erase memory of the Chechen hero from ...
