A member of International Red Cross has been detained in Chechnya for a short period of time
CHECHNYA, 23 February, Caucasus Times. Radio Svoboda quoting human rights activists from “Memorial” center reported that Adam Ibragimov, member of the local branch of International Red Cross organization, has been detained in Chechnya for a short period of time.

Chechen Prosecutor Valery Kuznetsov confirmed this information and added that one hour after detention a member of Red Cross organization has been released. Valery Kuznetsov did not provide any further details explaining the reasons for the detention of Adam Ibragimov.

World Commemorates Chechnya Day
People around the globe mark on Thursday, February 23, the World Chechnya Day to commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the forced deportation of people from Chechnya and Ingushetia under the Soviet rule.
 
In the Chechen capital, Chechens staged a demonstration at the Memorial Complex in central Jokhar to commemorate the tragedy, according to the World Chechnya Day Web site. Men and women held photos of their relatives missing during the last decade.The demonstrators used the occasion to draw attention to relatives who disappeared during over ten years of fighting between Chechen separatists and Russian forces.
 
Chechens and Ingush, who were also victims of the deportations to the barren steppes of then-Soviet Central Asia, marked the anniversary with visits to mosques and cemeteries.

There was no official ban on the Danish Refugee Council’s activities in Chechnya, a senior said this week. Earlier, the group that provides food to tens of thousands of people in war-ravaged Chechnya said it was forced to suspend operations after Chechen officials banned all Danish organizations because of the publication of Prophet Muhammad cartoons.

Chechnya’s Acting Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov said Thursday that there was no ban on the Danish Refugee Council’s activities in Chechnya, a Russian news agency reported. “There have been no official documents concerning the activity of the Danish Refugee Council,” Kadyrov was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency.

Kadyrov said that the Chechen government had earlier issued a letter that was “advisory” in nature and “designed to safeguard those working under the Danish Refugee Council’s auspices in Chechnya,” Interfax reported.
