Danish aid groups suspend Chechnya operations after ban announced over prophet drawings

MOSCOW (AP) - An aid group that provides food to tens of thousands of people in war-ravaged Chechnya suspended its operations on Tuesday after Chechen officials banned all Danish organizations because of the publication of Prophet Muhammad cartoons.

The Danish Refugee Council's country director for Russia, Per Ilsaas, said the group had temporarily halted operations in the southern Russian region for security reasons but hoped it would be able to resume its work soon.

"We hope we will be able to enter a dialogue to see if there is a way forward," Ilsaas told The Associated Press.

Ramzan Kadyrov, a widely feared strongman who is the No. 2 figure in Chechnya's Kremlin-backed administration, said Monday that Danish organizations would no longer be allowed in mostly Muslim Chechnya because of caricatures ...

Opportunists And Hypocrisy

According to what the news agencies had reported, the pro-Russian rulers and officials of the Chechen Republic had banned all Danish organizations because of the publication of Prophet Muhammad cartoons.
Opportunists got the chance to get rid of the humanitarian organizations and aid groups that provides food to tens of thousands of Chechen people in war-ravaged Chechnya, which explains their well-known hypocrisy that make them take the advantage of revenging from those respected groups that work for the sake of human beings and the assistance of oppressed Chechen citizens who got the kind help and generous assistance from very few similar groups and organizations.
I think that those who drew, published, distributed, and re-published the cartoons are only evil individuals that do not represent the good people of the nation of Denmark, while those pro-Russian hypocrites and opportunists who do not represent ...

JERUSALEM, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Outraged by Russian overtures to Hamas, Israel has told its diplomats to play up alleged ties between the Palestinian militants and Chechens fighting to secede from Moscow, Israeli political sources said on Monday.

They said Israeli embassies in Russia and elsewhere were provided information pamphlets linking Hamas and Chechen causes after Russian President Vladimir Putin said last week he wanted to invite leaders of the Islamic group to visit.

Putin's move raised hackles in Israel and the United States by challenging their campaign to isolate Hamas, which won Palestinian legislative elections last month, until it renounces violence and recognises the Jewish state's right to exist.

Responding to the controversy surrounding a Danish newspaper's publication of cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammed, acting Chechen Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov announced to journalists in Moscow that Chechnya would not admit "anything that comes out of Denmark"—including non-governmental organizations.

SADULAEV DISCUSSES REBEL MOVEMENT'S GOALS

The separatist Chechenpress website on February 11 posted a video of separatist president Abdul-Khalim Sadulaev reading a statement in Chechen. In the statement, which was credited to the Daymohk information agency and accompanied by a written Russian-language translation, Sadulaev said he wanted to "clear up our goals and tasks, around which there has, of late, developed a discussion that is leading us away from our Jihad."
