December 11 was the 12th anniversary of the start of the first Chechen war. Why Russia Is Destroying Chechnya

Russia's ruling elite finds incessant armed conflicts necessary for its own survival. Having claimed that the intervention in Chechnya is meant to "punish terrorism" and defend Russians from Chechen terrorist bombings, Yeltsin's government is unleashing another genocidal war against Chechnya and other Muslim parts of Russia. This perfectly illustrates the old Russian tradition of creating new problems, rather than solving existing ones.

It also resembles the "Wag the Dog" scenario at least as much as US bombings of the Sudanese pharmaceutical plant on the eve of Monica Lewinsky's testimony. Bombings of apartment complexes in Moscow and other Russian cities conveniently distract public attention from the grim reality of corruption at the very top of the Russian hierarchy.

In fact, there is little or no evidence linking any of the apartment bombings to "Chechen terrorists." ...

Message from Chechnya to the Muslims Performing Hajj and to All Muslims in General

A message from the Commander Muhannad, who recently assumed the leadership of the group of Islamic volunteers in Chechnya following the death of its previous commander, Abu Hafs al-Urduni, addressing Muslims participating in the Greatest Hajj (al-Hajj al-Akbar), was posted to the Arabic website qoqaz.com.

Muhannad's urging Muslims to support the Mujahideen in Chechnya both financially and morally. He asks Muslims making the pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia to pray for the Mujahideen, as they have been deprived of the celebration of Eid al-Aha by the Russians, who "substituted it with killing, fear and misery".

Muhannad additionally states: "I give the good news to our Muslim brothers everywhere that your brothers, the Mujahideen in Chechnya, are still resisting the Russian occupier and their painful operations make ...
