Chechnya's Government opens a campaign of population's moral upbringing

The Government of Chechnya has developed a project of spiritual and moral education of the Republic's population.

The RIA "Novosti" reports that at one of the meetings with participation of the heads of administrations, ministries, agencies and power structures Ramzan Kadyrov proclaimed: "I demand that the heads of districts, ministries and agencies of Chechnya inform their subordinates about the necessity to strictly follow the appearance and observe the requirements moved to employees' clothes that they wear at workplaces; it especially refers to women. Their clothes shall meet Chechen traditions."

The "Caucasian Knot" informed earlier that a week ago President of Chechnya ordered to stop leasing and selling wedding dresses from Europe in Chechnya, finding them excessively low (open) for the brides.

From this month on, students of higher schools of the Chechen Republic will ...

Protesters, Journalists, Rights Activists Beaten and Detained in Nazran

OMON (Russian Special Purpose Police Squad) riot police broke up a demonstration against the administration of Ingushetia’s President, Murat Zyazikov, in Nazran on November 24. The organizing committee for the protest, which was planned for November 24, had earlier announced that it would be postponed until December—citing, among other things, requests from high-level officials in Moscow that the protest not take place before the December 2 State Duma elections (Chechnya Weekly, November 21). Magomed Yevloev, head of the independent Ingushetiya.ru website, however, told the ...

Russia found responsible for killing elderly Chechen civilians

Today, the European Court of Human Rights found Russia responsible for killing Zaynap Tangiyeva's elderly father, mother and uncle on the night of 10-11 January 2000 in violation of Article 2 (right to life) of the European Convention on Human Rights. They were aged 73, 67 and 75 respectively. Mrs Tangiyeva was found to have established a prima facie case that her relatives had been killed by Russian servicemen and the Court found that Russia had "failed to provide any other satisfactory and convincing explanation of the events." The Court awarded Mrs Tangiyeva 60,000 euros in moral damages.

In January 2000 Zaynap and her family were living in Grozny, Chechnya. The city was under intense shelling by Russian Federal forces and her local area was under the control of Russian servicemen. On 11 ...

In Chechnya, no doubt of victory for United Russia

By Umalt Chadayev

CHECHNYA - The vast majority of Chechens believe that the party of power will win an absolute victory in the elections to the Russian State Duma on December 2.

Many people have noted that, unlike the campaigns of previous years, the current election campaign in Chechnya has been marked by the almost total passivity of the other political parties.

"Today the flow of information in the republic is virtually dominated by the United Russia party," a local human rights worker told Prague Watchdog’s correspondent. "United Russia's supporters are given preferential treatment in the republic primarily because the party’s regional branch is headed by [President] Ramzan Kadyrov."

"For some reason not a single one of the parties that are taking part in this election – I’m referring to ...

Over 20 Yamadayevtsy Flee from Chechnya

SIA CHECHENPRESS, October 25, 2007

Over 20 members of the Yamadayevtsy gang ‘Vostok’ (East) have fled from Chechnya in the beginning of October, the Kavkaz-Centre reveals. Shortly before, the gangsters had defected Yamadayev for a Kadyrovsty gang ‘Oil Regiment’, dislocated in Djalka village, Gudermes Area.

I is reported that some of the Yamadayevtsy paid money to Demilkhanov, the leaders of the ‘Oil Regiment’ gang, for a permission to ‘go with peace’. Then they left Chechnya, as they feared that staying at home would be dangerous for them: after their defection to Kadyrov, the Yamadayevs declared them ‘criminals’, and demanded the Kadyrovtsy to had them over for execution.

Now it emerged that the defectors had no intention to stay within any of the occupational gangs. They preferred to leave Chechnya for good.
