AIDS problem worsening in Chechnya

October 17th 2005 · Prague Watchdog / Lecha Sadayev

By Lecha Sadayev

CHECHNYA - AIDS has recently been spreading in Chechnya and according to Hedy Aydamirova, head doctor in the republic’s Anti-AIDS Center, there are now nearly 600 infected cases.

This figure includes women and 32 children, and their number increases each year. Back in 2003, eleven women had contracted AIDS, but since then this figure has increased seven-fold.

Sixteen boarding schools functioned in Chechnya before the war. "But now the majority of these buildings are either occupied by the military or were ruined during the course of two military campaigns," said Viskhanova.

In a recent letter to Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev and Defense Minister ...

June, 1, 2001.

Who needs KGB today? - I talk with Yaroslav writer Leonid Korolev. He is sympathetic person, intimate, but - how to say: a little bit thoughtless. During Putin's presidential campaign printed in his literary newspaper "Polushkina Rosha" slogans: "People are for putins, instead of rasputins".

About this "putins" and "rasputins" we spoke with him ...
