The statement by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of ChRIRussians are still bombing 'peaceful' Chechnya

January 25th, 2011

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeriya strongly condemn the terror action which took place in Moscow International Airport "Domodedovo”. We synonymously condemn the terror behaviour and there can be no justification for such cruelty whatsoever.  We express our condolences to the relatives of the victims and share their grief.

At the same time, we would like to address to the entire world that this kind of action might be doing of desperate people who have lost the hope.

The new Russian "aristocracy” is forgetting the poverty and needs of the people. By appointing leaders of the clans who are loyal to Kremlin in Autonomic Republics in north Caucasus, they are forgetting interests of the ordinary people. There are up to 85% unemployed in North Caucasus, in all regions rifer extortion and violence. ...

The Year in Chechnya: Reconstruction Marred by Lingering Insurgency and Inter-Chechen Conflict

Publication: Eurasia Daily Monitor

Downtown Grozny.

Summing up the situation unfolding in Chechnya over the past year, it is worth noting that diametrically opposite processes took place in that part of the North Caucasus. Anyone who had a chance to visit Chechnya in the last year seems to be excited about the changes that have been occurring in the landscape of the war-torn republic. At the site of yesterday’s ruins, Turkish companies have been erecting modern houses that now decorate the capital Grozny and nearby towns (www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtiDGsJuR2Y&feature=player_embedded#!). Quite a few Muslim countries might envy Chechnya for the architecture and luxurious embellishments of the mosques that have already been built. There is virtually no village or settlement in the republic without natural gas or electricity, and the roads in Chechnya have become the best in Russia.

Window on Eurasia: Protests in Grozny in 1950s Show What a Russian ‘Bunt’ Looks Like

Paul Goble

Vienna, January 19 – In the wake of the Manezh Square violence, many Moscow commentators have talked about what a future Russian "bunt” (revolt) might be, but a careful recounting of what happened in Grozny 64 years ago may provide the best example of what it might look like and why the use of force alone against it won’t solve the problems.
In an article on Newsland.ru, Oleg Matveyev describes what happened in Grozny in 1957. After the 20th Congress of the CPSU, he recalls, "the rehabilitation of both individual citizens and whole peoples who had suffered in the years of lawlessness began,” often leading to unforeseen and uncontrolled developments (news.babr.ru/?IDE=91108).
On January 6, 1957, Moscow issued a decree "on the restoration of the Chechen-Ingush ASSR within the RSFSR,” a measure that anticipated the ...

Over 240,000 citizens of Chechnya are jobless

Jan 07 2011, 22:00

According to the spokesman of the Chechen Ministry of Labour, in 2011 the emphasis in the fight on unemployment will be placed on development of small businesses.

"As of last December, the count of unemployed persons in the republic was 243,000, or 36.3 percent of the total capable population," said an employee of the Labour Ministry of Chechnya.

According to his story, the accent in the programme to fight unemployment will be made on the complex of measures to promote self-employment of the unemployed population. "This is the payment of grants in the amount of 50,000 roubles to unemployed persons," he said.

The spokesman of the Ministry has noted that most of jobless persons take subsidies for livestock breeding and business of private taxi drivers. Those, who receive subsidies, lose their right to receive unemployment benefits.

Meanwhile, the receivers of these subsidies argue that they had to spend ...

In Chechnya, militia officer and local resident are accused of large-scale fraud

Jan 06 2011, 23:10

An unemployed resident of the Naur District of Chechnya and a militia officer, who served as an on duty officer of the temporary detention facility (known as "IVS") of the local ROVD (District Interior Division) are suspected of a large-scale fraud with the so-called "combat" payments, which amounted to 900,000 roubles. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the republic's law enforcement agencies that a criminal case was initiated against them.

The criminal offence was revealed in the course of the check for compliance with federal legislation, held by prosecutors in late December.

"The fraud with combat payments was committed back in 2008. The above resident of the Naur District made a conspiracy with the above on duty officer and fabricated a false judicial decision to his name on recovery of money from the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) as ...
