According to final results released by Chechnya's electoral commission, 99.5% of eligible voters took part in the federal parliamentary elections in Chechnya, with the Kremlin's United Russia party getting 99.36% of the vote. The government-sponsored amendments to the Constitution of the Chechen Republic were approved by 96.88% of participants in the parallel referendum. Chechnya's MPs in the Russian State Duma will include first vice-premier Adam Delimkhanov, Constitutional Court chairman Magomed Vakhayev, the republic's parliamentary deputy Alid Yakhikhadzhiyev and State Duma deputy Akhmar Zavgayev.

According to final results released by Ingushetia's electoral commission, voter turnout reached 98.35% in Ingushetia, and the Kremlin's United Russia party received 98.72% of the votes. The opposition website Ingushetiya.ru reported a turnout of 8%.

Another year, another border.

Camera-van on the Polish border

I am out in south-east Poland with the border guards.

Their camera-van sits in a snowy field surrounded by hayricks, scanning
for anyone trying to cross the border illegally.

With such a long border it seems an almost hopeless task and the amount
of money spent here just doesn't compare with the cash pumped into the
Slovak border which I visited at the end of last year .

More of that side of the story in my report for the Ten O'Clock News,
which I hope will go out on Friday.

Just a few miles away, the forest is like a scene from a Christmas card:
tall fir trees are decorated with a scattering of snow on their branches.

It's very beautiful. But this is treacherous country.

Morality drive focuses on low-cut clothing and other signs of behaviour seen as un-traditional and therefore inappropriate.

The authorities in Chechnya are engaged in a drive to revive and institutionalise Chechen national values, but some argue they are going about it the wrong way, with instructions issued from on high telling women what they should and shouldn't wear.

Outside the entrance to the Youth Chamber in the Chechen capital Grozny hangs a new sign saying, "Women without headgear not allowed in the building".

Similar signs have appeared outside many other government buildings.

The Press House got its signpost with similar wording last month, but changed it a week later for a slightly politer one saying, "Women are respectfully asked to observe national dress traditions".
