THE ChRI PARLIAMENT PRESS RELEASE

A joint working meeting of the ChRI Parliament and Government chaired by Head of State Zhaloudi Saralyapov took place in Berlin on 21 May 2009.

The meeting’s agenda included the following: 
1. Promotion nominations for officers of the operating defence and law inforcement agencies submitted by the Chairman of the ChRI Government 
2. Conferment of the ChRI citizenship to foreign nationals who for many years have defended the right of the Chechen people to freedom and independence.
3. Confirmation of Ilyas Arsanykaev to the post of State Minister.

The meeting heard the report by the ChRI Minister of Foreign Affairs Usman Ferzauli concerning current issues as well as the state of preliminary work to organise a Foundation Conference to set up a group of deputies to support the ChRI recognition under the aegis of the European Parliament.

Another report by the ChRI Minister of Culture, Education and Science Ruslan Zelimkhanov informed the leadership of the plan of diaspora’s efforts to set up additional schools teaching Chechen in the areas of compact settlement of Chechens.

The meeting discussed the military and political situation in Chechnya in the light of recent events. The Chairman of the ChRI Government made several proposals on the steps needed to combat attempts to ‘chechenize’ the conflict.

Chairman of the ChRI Government Akhmed Zakaev also met with the President of the International Association ‘For Human Rights’ Said-Emin Ibragimov and thanked him for his great contribution to the cause of the Chechen people’s right to its own sovereignty. In his turn Said-Emin Ibragimov expressed his firm belief that the ChRI leadership would continue to defend the interests of the Chechen people and fundamental human values in their work.

With the conclusion of the meeting the ChRI Governmental Chairman Akhmed Zakaev and the ChRI Minister of Foreign Affairs Usman Ferzauli left for Oslo in Norway to take part in the ‘Freedom Forum’ international conference.
