Based upon a short story by Leo Tolstoy, the film tells the story of two Russian soldiers who are ambushed by Muslim rebels in the Caucasus region of Chechnya and taken prisoner by a Chechen, who wants to trade them for his son in a Russian prison. Screening of film Alexandra (2007) by Russian director Alexander Sokurov, followed by discussion led by Aude Merlin, North Caucasus specialist and Professor of Political Science at the Free University of Brussels (ULB). February 23 Deportation Day
The 64th anniversary of the Stalin-era deportations of 650,000 Chechens and Ingushes to Soviet Central Asia and Siberia in 1944. Commemoration and anti-war protest events will take place in various parts of the world.
