The Chechen Parliament’s Address to the Chechen people

(Following the request from several of our readers we publish the translation of the ChRI Parliament’s Address to the Chechen people)

Esteemed Chechen people!
It is our duty today to listen to you, to consult you and to put into action all that you entrust us with.
We did not address you earlier and the reason for the delay was the fact that we had been trying to investigate and find out all the details of the coup d’etat planned against our country.
Today we know all about this crime. Those who have been vying for power with us and with Aslan Maskhadov (let Allah bless his jikhad) for the last ten years , have just abandoned this power to us now, when they don’t need it any longer. Having destroyed everything they could, when the time had come to take responsibility, they tried to shift it to us.
We are taking this authority upon our shoulders because we truly consider it our duty.
We do not have the right to simply depart today, each in pursuit of our individual freedom and prosperity, when you, the Chechen people, face a difficult moment with these people wanting to make you a hostage of their unbridled policies.
We should therefore take a lot of decisions concerning the Chechen state, decisions for which we are responsible to Allah and to you, the Chechen people. Future generations will judge as to their success or their failure.
We therefore call upon all the different groups, other politicians, military commanders, learned alims to be patient and to stop the attacks, actions and advice directed against us and destroying mutual understanding and unity among us.
We intend to consult all of you. We are working hard to eliminate all the deviations on the basis of law. So we urge you to be patient during this period. If there is any misunderstanding in what you say about us, in our mutual relationship, please do not parade it in front of the whole world, to our enemies’ delight. We are not in the right state now to collect and to publicly discuss such things.
Today our people who have undergone enemy attacks, have been deprived of their hearths, their homes, their motherland, have been dispersed all over the world. Another part of our people is experiencing enemy terror, with huge numbers of women, old people and children killed. The best representatives of our nation have perished in their jikhad (let Allah bless their jikhad). The damage to the country is unmeasured.
We would like in particular to address our learned alims. We are telling you: you, the people who possess knowledge, the people who received the gift of knowledge from Allah, for the sake or Allah, the creator, do become peace keepers among your own people! The main reason for the present divisions in our nation is that you yourselves have divided into different camps. You must be aware of the fact that where there is no accord there is evil, where there is no accord, there is trouble. You must become the tamada’s of mourning on our soil; where people are praying to Allah you have to lead them in prayer. If you are divided in your religion and this brings about a conflict within the Chechen people , you would have to answer to Allah for this – for every drop of blood, every tear. Stop those who are trying to spread evil among us, randomly accusing different people of hypocrisy. If you cannot do it, then decide who is a hypocrite, this one or that one, and declare it openly, in order to stop the groundless bullying by these people. Answer your people’s call for help.
