Who should we ‘thank’ for the Second War
SIA CHECHENPRESS, November 14, 2007
It is quite unbelievable!!! How a man who has signed his letter simply as ‘an ordinary Chechen from Grozny’ has managed so completely (!)to put my very thoughts into words! The thoughts which have been bothering me ever since Dokku Umarov (as prompted by Udugov) publicized his declaration on the creation of the Caucasus Emirate!
There is not much I can add or take away from the letter of this ‘ordinary Chechen’! All these day, since Umarov’s statement, I have been following very closely and with great apprehension the Chechenpress website! I have been very happy that the majority of the authors (both rank and file and high-ranking, including military commanders) have come out in support of Akhmed Zakaev, who I highly respect and admire!
By the way, I have even written on one of the Russian websites that if only a person like Zakaev could suddenly become the President or at least the Prime Minister of Russia – we would live in a very different country! In a civilised, truly liberal and democratic country! (Unfortunately, we do not have a single politician who could be his equal!)
Yes, indeed, I am concerned about Ichkeriya but have not dared state my opinion this time on the Chechenpress website (although I had done it numerous times before now). I thought that as I am not a Chechen citizen I have no right to interfere in its internal affairs. But the article entitled ‘The bastards’ has roused me so much that I could not help saying thank you to its author!
What has struck me and inspired me in particular is the following phrase which addresses Ichkeriya’s MPs and other leaders: « You did not renounce the Dagestan march, you did not renounce Nord-Ost, nor did you renounce Beslan. You could not care less about the image of your own people, all you cared about was your own image. Never did you say that Udugov was the author of the second Chechen war».
What a strong and bold sentence – it has inspired me to make my own, perhaps, a blasphemous, supposition. They (the leaders) did not renounce all of the above because they were afraid that such a renunciation would endanger their position as true believers, true Muslims! (True believers in Udugov’s understanding of this word! This is the extent he has managed to brainwash people with his distorted version of the real Islam, the Islam which is true, just and peace loving in its essence!).
So the Chechen people are in fact a victim – not of their leaders and even not of Putin. They are a victim of the ‘fundamentalist Islam’ in Udugov’s packaging! In no way do I try to excuse Putin the executioner, who has skilfully manipulated Udugov’s ‘ideology’ for his own fanatical imperial objectives!
