This schedule of major events related to the conflict in Chechnya is continuously updated. July 31-August 9 Southern Federal District (Russia) The Russian 58th Army will conduct military exercises in North Ossetia, Ingushetia, Dagestan, Chechnya and Stavropol Krai. More. August 6 Grozny (Chechnya) Anniversary of the brief taking of Grozny by forces of the Chechen resistance in 1996. August 10 Leith (Scotland) Screening of film "Elsi" by Polish director Magda Florek, at the Leith Film Festival (August 6-11). Elsi is 15 years old, comes from Chechnya and he has something important to say. It is so important that he is not going to let the fact of having his time cut to a mere 5 minutes, or the fact that those he has come to address really don’t seem interested, stop him from saying his piece. So important he wants you to hear it too. More. August 15 Jerash (Jordan) Performance by the Chechen Vainakh folk dance group at the Jerash Festival of Culture & Arts. More. August 17-25 Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) Screening of film "Alexandra" by Russian director Alexander Sokurov, at the 13th Sarajevo International Film Festival. A babushka goes to Chechnya to visit her grandson, a captain in the Russian army. More. August 22-23 Gudermes (Chechnya) The Moscow-backed Chechen authorities will organize a peace-making forum to counteract religious extremism and terrorism entitled "Islam is a religion of peace and creation".
