Chechnya asks Putin to help to find three thousand lost persons

The authorities of Chechnya are preparing an application to the president of Russia with a request to help to find three thousand missing residents of the Republic, the newspaper "Gazeta" informs. Meanwhile, on the coming Thursday, April 5, the European Court for Human Rights (ECtHR) will announce its verdict on the disappearance case of Shakhid Baisaev in Chechnya. This is already the third case of this sort, and most probably, Russia will lose it. For the first time the victims are not only local residents, but also two investigators of the Prosecutor's Office, who approached too close to disclosure of the crime. Baisaev's wife Asmart was assisted to file a complaint to Strasburg by the lawyers of the Foundation "Legal Initiative Russia - Ingushetia." They told the "Gazeta" there that the crime had been committed on March 2, 2000, in the village of Podgornoye, not far from the Staropromyslovskiy District of the city of Grozny, where one of the most dramatic episodes of the second Chechen war campaign. Then, by mistake, the "OMON" (Special Militia) unit from the city of Sergiev-Posad got under friend fire, and over 20 militiamen were killed.
