March 1 Grozny (Chechnya) On the initiative of Chechen Premier Ramzan Kadyrov, the office of the Chechen human rights commissioner will hold a conference on human rights. Thomas Hammarberg, Commissioner for Human Rights at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, will take part in it. More. March 8 Chechnya 2nd anniversary of the killing of Aslan Maskhadov, President of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria (since 1997) and Chechen resistance leader. March 11 Daghestan (Russia) Parliamentary elections. March 19-27 Chechnya Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, the head of Russia’s Muslim community, will visit the North Caucasus, including the Chechen Republic, together with a delegation of leading Russian Muslim clerics. More. March 24 Tortona (Piemonte, Italy) Presentation of Proibito parlare. Cecenia, Beslan e Teatro Dubrovka: le verita scomode della Russia di Putin ("Forbidden to speak. Chechnya, Beslan and Dubrovka Theatre: the uncomfortable truths about Putin's Russia"), a book of essays by the slain Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya, with Valter Vecellio, RAI journalist and member of the National Steering Committee of Radicali Italiani.
