February 1     Moscow (Russia)
Russian President Vladimir Putin will give a large press conference. The event will take place in the Kremlin at 12.00. More.
February 1     Moscow (Russia)
A news conference of the Eminent Jurists Panel on terrorism, counter-terrorism and human rights in Russia will take place in the Central House of the Journalist (Nikitsky Boulevard 8a) at 15.00. More.
February 7     France
Itchkéri Kenti : Les fils de l’Itchkérie (The Sons of Ichkeria), a film by Florent Marcie, will be on general release in French cinemas from February 7 2007. Filmed in secret in Chechnya, Itchkéri Kenti is the story of a brief moment of Chechen history during the winter of 1996, just after the Pervomaiskaya operation and up to the point when the village of Novo-Grozny was taken by the Russian army at the end of February that year. The reopening of Grozny airport will take place in mid-February, while regular civilian flights will resume in mid-March, according to a reported official statement by Chechen deputy prime minister Khuseyn Dzhabrailov. More.
February 23     The Deportation Day
The 63rd anniversary of Stalin-era deportations of 650,000 Chechens and Ingushes to Soviet Central Asia and Siberia in 1944. Commemoration and anti-war protest events will take place in various parts of the world. Further info at http://www.worldchechnyaday.org.
