This schedule of major events related to the conflict in Chechnya is continuously updated. Announcements for planned or expected events or any other suggestions are most welcome (e-mail: mail at watchdog.cz).
November 1     Moscow (Russia)
UN General Secretary-elect Ban Ki-moon will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
November 3     Grozny (Chechnya)
A round table on amnesty will be organized by the Chechen Ministry for Nationalities Policy, Press and Information. More.
Novermber 4     Montreuil (France)
Le Comité Tchétchénie will organize a conference and debate entitled "Women in occupied Chechnya". The event will take place at Maison des femmes de Montreuil (24 - 28 rue de l’Eglise) in Montreuil (near Paris) at 16.00. The speakers include Issita Arslanova, chairwoman of the French-Chechen Cultural Center, and Martin Rosselot of l’Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS). More.
November 6-10     Moscow (Russia)
Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic will visit Russia. His visit includes a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
November 7     Brussels (Belgium)
A conference and debate about the human rights situation in Russia will be held on the occasion of the EU-Russia human rights dialogue. The event will take place at 19.30 at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Av. P. Héger, Bâtiment H Local H2215). The speakers include Svetlana Gannushkina (Civic Assistance), Tatyana Lokshina (Demos), Oleg Orlov and Natalia Estemirova (both Memorial), Stanislav Dmitriyevsky (ORChD) and others. November 9     Strasbourg (France)
The European Court of Human Rights will rule on a case regarding the disappearance of two family members in Chechnya. The case, Imakayeva v. Russia, concerns the detention and disappearance of Said-Khusein Imakayev and the subsequent disappearance of his father, Said-Magomed Imakayev, several months after Said-Khusein’s parents had filed an application with the European Court. November 14     Washingtons, DC (USA)
The Jamestown Foundation will organize a discussion entitled "Putin and the Succession Question: What Happens Between Now and 2008?". The presenter is Dr. Nikolai V. Zlobin of the Center for Defense Information and the discussant is Mr. Peter Reddaway, Professor Emeritus of Political Science and International Affairs George Washington University. The event will take place at Jamestown Foundation (1111 16th St. NW 7th Floor Conference Room) at 10:00-12:00. More.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President George Bush will hold a short meeting at a Moscow airport. More.

The Russian movement "For Human Rights" will organize a rally in honour of slain Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya. The event will take place at 18.00-20.00 in Novopushkinsky park. More.

Rallies and other events in honour of slain Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya will take place in several Russian cities. More.
November 15     Paris (France)
A debate on the political situation in Russia and Chechnya will be held at 126, rue de l’université, room 6217 at 18.00. The event is organized by French NGO Etudes Sans Frontières in honour of slain Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya. More.
November 16     Germany
Events in honour of slain Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya will take place in front of the Russian embassy in Berlin (Unter den Linden 63-65, at 3.30pm) and as well as in front of Russian consulates in Munich (Seidlstr. 28, at 4pm), Leipzig (Turmgutstr. 1, at 4.30pm) and Bonn (Waldstr. 42, at 5pm ). The events are organized by Reporters without Borders and the German branch of Amnesty International. More.
November 18-19     Nalchik (Kabardino-Balkaria / Russia)
The Moscow School of Political Studies will organize a seminar entitled "Boosting civic freedoms, independent media, and human rights protection in the Northern Caucasus". The venue and time of the event will be specified later. More.

November 25     Lille (France)
A conference/debate entitled "And Chechnya?" and focused on the political and human rights situation in Chechnya will take place at 15.30 at Maison de l’éducation populaire 1 place Georges Lyon.
October 13 - November 30     Moscow (Russia)
An exhibition of paintings by John Keane entitled "Fifty seven hours in the house of culture" and concerning the October 2002 Dubrovska Theatre siege. The exhibition, which first took place in London's Flower East Gallery this past spring, is taking place in Andrei Sakharov Museum and Community Center. More.
November 30     Moscow (Russia)
A rally on the Day of Political Prisoners and Victims of Political Represssions will be held in front of the Solovetsky Stone at Lubyanka Square at 18.00. The event is organized by Russian NGOs and opposition political parties. More.
