September 1-3 Beslan (Russia) The second anniversary of the school hostage tragedy that took place in the North Ossetian town of Beslan, where about 1,300 people were taken hostage and then over 330 killed in circumstances that are still being investigated. September 3 Vienna (Austria) A rally held to mark the 15th anniversary of the declaration of Chechnya's independence (September 6, 1991) and to protest against the second war in Chechnya will take place at 14:00 in front of the OSCE building (Heldenplatz Square). More. September 6 Chechnya The 15th anniversary of the declaration of the independent Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. September 6 Toronto (Canada) A rally against the genocide in Chechnya will take place in the downtown of the city. More. September 13 - October 15 London (Great Britain) The New End Theatre (27 New End, Hampstead) in association with First Act Productions will present the world premiere of "In Your Hands", a play on the October 2002 Dubrovka theatre siege written by Russian-born Natalia Pelevine and directed by Julian Woolford. More. September 14 Washington, DC (USA) The Jamestown Foundation will host a conference entitled "The Future of the North Caucasus". The speakers include, among others, Paul Goble, Pavel Baev, Mikhail Roshchin, John B. Dunlop, Andrew McGregor, Marie Bennigsen, Moshe Gammer, Andrei Smirnov, and Murad Batal al-Shishani. The event will take place in the Root Room (2nd Floor) at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (1779 Massachusetts Ave.) at 8:30-17:00. More. September 15-17 St Petersburg Speakers of parliaments of the G8 countries will meet. September 15 Ingushetiya / Chechnya About 4,000 Chechen IDPs should be returned by September 15 from Ingushetiya to Chechnya, according to a recent order by the Moscow-backed Chechen Premier Ramzan Kadyrov. September 30 North Caucasus The deadline by which guerrillas in the Northern Caucasus should give up arms and start talks with the authorities, according to a proposal by Russia's National Anti-Terror Committee announced by its head Nikolai Patrushev, who heads also the Federal Security Service (FSB).
