The journalist was told that the explosion occurred when the convoy was passing through, driving with very high speed. The truck loaded with TNT struck a pot-hole in the road, which caused the detonation of the explosives.
After the explosion, a passenger car with several Mujahideen drove up to the site of the accident. They shouted in Ingush language: "Where is Shamil?"
When they couldn't find Basayev's body, the Mujahideen left.
The propagandistic statement by the FSB about the death of 12 Mujahideen cannot be confirmed. 4 Mujahideen died together with Shamil Basayev as a result of the accident.
