CHECHNYA. (Information courtesy of the Russian-Chechen Information Agency, Union of Non-Governmental Organisations, Chechen Committee of National Salvation). In Chechnya and Ingushetia there is no end to disappearances, killings, “special operations”, “addressed cleansing operations”, and arbitrary behaviour by Russian forces, the Chechen militia, as well as other unidentified groups.

Urus Martan region. A group of locals in Urus-Martan appealed to a correspondent from the RCIA to investigate the disappearance of a large herd of cows. According to the locals, the herd disappeared from a pasture west of the village. Eyewitnesses Timur and Tagir Akhmadov related how on the evening of 7 December they saw a group of 5 or 6 men dressed in fatigues driving the cattle towards the mountains.

9 December
Grozny region. Armed men in fatigues took away Askhab Yusupov from his house in Berkat Yurt. The group left with him in unmarked cars.

Grozny. In the Lenin district of the city, a body of a man aged between 25 and 30 was discovered. No documentation was found on the body, which carried evidence of multiple injuries.

Shelkovsky region. A quarrel broke out at a check point in the region centre of Shelkovskaya. A man from the so-called Anti-Terrorist Centre (Kadyrovtsy), Amurdi Izmailov, opened fire and mortally wounded militia sergeant Askhab Gaierbekov and Usman Nudiev (a militia patrol commander). Both passed away in the local district hospital.

Grozny. Nine masked men armed with automatic weapons burst into an apartment on Yaltinskaya road and murdered 24-year-old Said-Akhmet Elmurzaev. The man was a native of Urus-Martan and was registered as living in Stary Achkhoy.
