Sunday November, 27 news has come, that known Chechen right protector and public figure Hasan Baiev, also known as the outstanding sportsman, has won the second prize-winning places on the international tournament on sambo-wrestling in Paris. Hasan Baiev supported a combined team of USA, and in deciding final fight judges of tournament with appreciable fluctuations have awarded the first place to fighter from Canada.
It is necessary to remind, that in 2001 Hasan Baiev, acting under the flag of Ichkerija, has won first place in world tournament on sambo-wrestling and since then invariable occupies the supreme places in the international ratings by this kind of sports. On the Parisian tournament there were numerous Chechen fans who have gathered from various European countries and from Northern America. They encouraged the fellow countryman, loudly scanning "Johar! Ichkerija!". Having understood it, to the Chechen fans many French have joined, expressing by these exclamations not only sport, but also political solidarity with the Chechen people asserting the independence in struggle against the Russian aggressors.
After tournament our correspondent managed to say a pair words with Hasan Baiev. On a question, with what will he explains the second place, Hasan said:
"Frankly speaking, up to last moment I was not going to participate in this competition as I was absolute unprepared. You know, that tournaments of such level demand careful observance of regime and the intense trainings. And I have lead all these days, in various conference halls and planes, flying from one city to another and taking part in various political actions. November, 22 I was in Glasgow, at meeting of Akhmed Zakaev with representatives of the British moslems, for other day in Edinburgh took part in discussion of the Chechen problem in parliament of Scotland, november, 25 was in London, at Conference on the Chechenya. In intervals - dialogue with press, meetings with various political and public figures, but all in the same spirit. So, neither about observance regime, nor about trainings it was possible to think".
Really, it is possible to tell, that Hasan Baiev has taken the second place in this tournament "by the way", on a way from London to Spain where he at once should take off on presentation of the book "Oath:the Surgeon under fire". This book in which our fellow countryman tells about the profession of a physician during two Russian - Chechen wars, is released in many languages and uses at the western reader, especially American, the big popularity. Now it is translated in Spanish language and Hasan Baiev is invited to Madrid on presentation. In what the reason of popularity of this book?
As we already marked earlier, inviting Hasan Baiev on telecasts and printing his interview in newspapers, the western journalists constantly should remind an audience, that professional work of the Chechen doctor passed in so heavy and fatally dangerous conditions that might seem simply improbable if reporters of the western MASS-MEDIA, representatives of right protecting and humanitarian organizations have not made videoshootings and photos of the . So, V.Topaller of the American broadcasting company RTV International, having invited on Hasan Baiev, has found necessary to present the visitor to the New York televiewers this way:
"Today we have a unique guest. We frequently depreciate this word, speaking, that "we have a surprising guest","legendary person" But today we with you really meet with the unique person. It is enough to tell, that he has rescued lifes to thousand people including, Shamil Basaev. Our guest is doctor Hasan Baiev... During the first Chechen war you operated under bombardments, under rocket bombardments. I know a completely, in my opinion, improbable number which am afraid to say because it seems to me like a mistake... You have carried out more than four thousand operations?" (Actually, Hasan Baiev for two wars operated 4600 persons, frequently - in cellars, dugouts and even in streets. Sometimes he had to carry out amputation of finitenesses by an economic saw and to make cranial trepanation by a usual domestic drill).
But we shall return to sports event. Hasan Baiev perceives the second place quietly, but in his tone some dissatisfaction is heared, because this person, certainly, knows the price of his sports skill and understands, that the true professional should concern to business with the responsibility, not giving anything on will of a case. Whether however sports are the basic trade of our fellow countryman, his last and present successes on this field no matter how brilliant they are? Let me express a doubt.
Hasan Baiev is first of all a doctor, and, a doctor who in heaviest and tragical times for Chechen people has brought healing and rendered the feasible help to thousand fellow countrymen. On this field he has to the full shown the selflessness, humane and noble features of the character. And in this quality he is well-known in the West, using the popularity not for self-enrichment but to again and again inform the western public of pain and tragedy of people, wakening in people what known right protector Nadejda Banchik has named "ill conscience". And unless it misses a job of the doctor - to treat not only an ill body, but also ill conscience?
And Hasan Baiev makes this treatment, because after his each public report, after each performance, in the West the number of those who begins to perceive tragedy of Chechen people as own tragedy is steadily increased. And in it is, perhaps, the main achievement of our eminent fellow countryman, that main pedestal on which he is put by "dctors oath", an oath to respond on a pain and torments of people. An oath which he never broke.
