( the Notes of an observer)
We continue the publication "Chechen diary" of Andrey Novikov. The author - active participant of democratic movement in 80th, a member of group "Doverie" (trust). In 90th of the last century worked as the political analyst in "Literatunaja Gazeta" and a weekly journal "Vek". The unpublished notes turned into a book - a political diary of epoch of the first years of the Second Chechen war. The special attention is deserved by political forecasts of the author, the majority from which have eventually proved to be true.

I never understood the phrase: OUR ARMY WAS EXPOSED .
Who exposed? Where have exposed?
Have you ever heared, that at us judged the militarian? You know even one case which would be started by military Office of Public Prosecutor and has finished thus up to the end? Show me one military man who is serving time for war crimes, accomplished in the last Chechen campaign?
There are no such military men. Simply are not.
Such feeling, that all these truisms about "our guys" and "exposed army" compose either idiots, or dishonourable journalists. Paradox of our modern history is that "killers" are politics, instead of "executioners". And stop this talks about "our guys", dying in the Chechen Republic. First of all this are YOUR guys. I do not understand, why you them, as cosmonauts, declare national property. Talk to usual people, they have other opinion about "our guys". I Heard with my own ears as the elderly woman in Rybinsk spoke: THE NORMAL PERSON WILL NOT GO ON THIS WAR. ONLY MURDERERS.
The society's opinion is much worse, than propagation. (though they speak basically about ones who go there by contract, but I heared something similar even about ones who have to serve.)
Further. Let's recognize that they are sent on war IT IS NATURAL, THAT THEM THERE KILL. When the peaceful population dies durring the war, it is unnatural. The soldier struggling on war with the weapon in hands, is put by the fact of his existence in conditions of death. All this is strange even for explaining, it is so natural.
Some soldiers were killed (stylistic claims to Mr. Putin) in conditions of guerrilla war. the MASS-MEDIA lifts a hysterics, as if this is an emergency. "Bandit bullet has killed a hero"‰ Excuse me, but when "Kovpak" shot (stylistic claims to Mr. Hitler) invaders, Germans concerned to this more naturally, than we.
Unique way to keep their lifes: give all of them a shovel and send in collective farm, let them dig potatos. There they will be "on their land". There they will have constitutional potato. (Unconstitutional can throw out.) The only guerrillas who there may attack them at night, are mosquitoes. It is possible to kill mosquitoes. There will be no tribunal for it Besides, it is possible TO RAPE the . And for it also will not be a tribunal. It is possible even to rape a pregnant mosquitoe, and then kill, though, after that it is better to check at psychiatrist. The big congestions of mosquitoes can be destroyed with airforce and "Grad" burst fire. If nothing it will turn out, on mosquitoes it is possible to drop a nuclear bomb.
The truth is, that they won't become less after that.

It can be constantly heard: in the Chechen Republic nobody works, only hold in hands the weapons.
For comparison we have Rybinsk. It is impossible to tell, that everyone here in a cellar has an automatic device of Kalashnikov, but mainly the situation differs not much from Chechen. Monstrous unemployment. City is as a corked bank: To ooor person it is very difficult to leave it. And on a background of this - the fast-growing youth which is not "unemployed", - not, in general it never worked. (It absolutely different than "simply unemployed".)
And an exit from this situation is the following. VERY MUCH YOUNG PEOPLE WISH TO SERVE IN ARMY. If you consider, that "this can't be", come and look. Earlier they ran from army, now run to it because see in military service a unique opportunity to be arranged in life. Many dreamed to go to the Chechen Republic by contract and earn there "a lot of money". In general, everything, that is connected to power structures, is in demand now at young people. I talked in the street to the boy of 13 years who spoke that dreams to become an "omon" worker: "And if will fail, simple a militia man".
In training halls of Rybinsk it is terrible even to look: they work as incubators for growing of body. Comes a boy - leaves a dinosaur with a small shaved off head .
To tell the truth, I not absolutely understand, when I hear a dribbling phrase: "our boys". It is possible to think, that these boys studied in the university, and they have sent them on war. A lie! Many, very much many of them are not accidentally on war. There are among them simply murderers: spiteful, cynical, cursing after each word, hating all around. What Chechen Republic? Tell them tomorrow to take Moscow , they will take Moscow.
Now speak much about a military-industrial complex. But it seems to me, more exact here would be other term: the MILITARY - HUMAN COMPLEX. (Though even the term "war" here is hardly applicable: it is not a preparation for war which was in 30th years in the USSR. It is something different, than war: a military - police mode, "Police Russia".)
