The Chechen diary - 4

( the Notes of the Observer)

We continue the publication "Chechen diary" of Andrey Novikov. The author - active participant of democratic movement in 80th, a member of group "Doverie" (trust). In 90th of the last century worked as the political analyst in "Literatunaja Gazeta" and a weekly journal "Vek". The unpublished notes turned into a book - a political diary of epoch of the first years of the Second Chechen war. The special attention is deserved by political forecasts of the author, the majority from which have eventually proved to be true.

*********

January, 10 2000

What for did Russia need the Chechen war? I emphasize: not the government and not the Russian state, but the Russian people? I assure you, it is necessary for them!

If to look at a history, it is possible to see, that war accompanied the birth of almost each new nation. War for independence has created United States. Civil war has fused Russia in 1917. and has cast her anew as the Soviet Russia. Existential value of war, "spilled blood" is extremely important. The new nation affirms in war, depurates in it.

Democratic revolutions are no exception. Wreck of communistic modes in Czechoslovakia, GDR, Russia, Poland and especial in Romania also were accompanied sometimes by bloody collisions. Four defenders of the Russian democratic revolution. I have remembered the shots where Yeltsin "apologised" before parents of victims, in it there was something from religous rite. Democracy has demanded blood too.

It is curious: almost in all cases of birth of the nation was also was the "second war", "second blood", sometimes surpassing the first. For example, war of the North and the South in America in XIX century has many times surpassed the first "iemancipatory" war. Ideas of freedom and the human advantage, won already at Englishmen, were confirmed once again.

The French nation was created not only on fields of civil battles of 1789-1795, but also in imperial napoleonic wars. Any revolution and any civil war have also the subsequent geopolitic expansion.

In the Soviet history too was "the second war" - "The Great Patriotic War" which has many times surpassed in the scales "first", civil war. The newborn Soviet nation has got stronger in it and has received something like a rebirth. Soviet regime, the Soviet type of a civilization has arisen only after the second world war; up to it it only asserted itself, was ephemeral-modernist, "Bolshevistic".

We should ask: whether something similar occurs with newborn "Russia", arisen in the beginning of 90th as the remain of the Soviet empire?

Whether is casual that "democratic Russia" is tempered today in criminal Chechen war ? Whether it is casual, what exactly those technologies of Russian iaieiia?eaeecia are fulfilled, which the nearest decade, apparently, will touch the most part of the postSoviet space?

Is it casual, at last, that unbridled patriotism became continuation of "democratic Russia" in the beginning of 90th?

I do not see anything strange in these metamorphosises. On the title idea, democratic revolution of year 1991 was a patriotic musical. We somehow overlook about with what slogans our democrats broke Soviet fortress. They were: "Sovereign Russia", "Russian sovereignty", "Russian state system". Words like "freedom", "human rights" were used much less often. It seems to me, neither Galina Vasil'evna Starovojtova, nor Jury Afanas'ev and other democrats who have lifted on a crest of revolution a lowing nomenclature monster, not quite understood, what terrible state is born with their participation; the word"Russia" has turned their heads.

And it, the lowing monster, has quickly understood!

Has crushed the Supreme council, has let out on streets of cities "Omon" and S.W.A.T. teams and started War.

I repeat: there is no revolution without War. Cynical Chechen war, in the first and in the second variants, became Russian war in which the arisen Mode completely has rejected the democratic appearance, has shown an animal grin.

No, certainly, not August of 91th was the continuation of this War, but later mutation, other imperceptible, revanchist revolution which has come in October of 93. Now it is a secret for nobody: those "Omon" agents, who shot and beat people in streets of Moscow , year after, in December of 94-th, entered the Chechen Republic.

What kind of a war is that, where patriotic Russia affirms? What iner social energy is liberated by it? What corporate mechanisms start to work? What type of the state and a society builds? What geopolitic figure draws on friable sand of the postSoviet space? What type of the person is the "national hero"?

First of all: it is not an army war. The army does not bomb the territory, does not conduct operations against people. Alexander Lebed has understood it and consequently did not want to be Bonapart in this dirty war; has rejected an easy way.

Not army, but "new PCIA", internal armies and all system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs conduct this monstrous war. And even those rests of Army, - commandoes, sea infantry, - they too become a version of chastisers; all of them, - general Shamanov with with the face of Hludov (film "The Run" by Bulgakovs novel); the young commando shooting with a straight line laying the Chechen village; information special forces agent Dorenko, walking on front line with chubby belly, - all seem to PCIA shoulder straps.

War in your own territory, against your people is a criminal war. But let's recognize: in it the new Russian nation asserts itself. In it and through it the type of "extremal man" is born, the Russian vermin who for a long time becomes the hero of internal life in Russia, will destroy, beat in the markets and the areas, asserting historically new model of behaviour - national-bolshevism.

The role of war in formation of radical social culture was always great. We shall recollect the first world war, that created the social character of the future Revolution - "th man with a gun". Extreme experience was transferred in civil life, and from it was forged the "brother" - a social type of bolchevism.

Let's recollect Great Patriotic War: its role in formation of post-war generation which has absorbed "the holly war" with mothers milk and has created brilliant, as a meteoric shower, epoch of 60th. (it Is surprising as these wars differ by the public influence : if civil war has created a psychogenic basis of the future Terror, preaching hatred of "class enemy", and "thermonuc" raged in torture chambers of PCIA. Great Patriotic War has created poets and composers, actors and writers, being humanistic burst of the life of people on the edge of existance.)

Let's recollect the Afghani war, it's "social hero". How teribly has it come in the subsequent post-rebuilding life, cutting off the heads to co-operators, destroying habitual peace of the Soviet life.

And now the Chechen war. Not one- two, repeated. The nation which twice plunges itself into the same war, may not tell about itself any more: I was mistaken, it is not my war.

You don't mistake twice. No, it is already clear: it is Russian war. In 95-96. Russia turned away from war, the liberal press, TV opposed militarians, against atrocities of the Russian commandoes lifting on bayonets babies in Samashka and Batumi. The rests of the liberal democracy did not want to see in itself in this war, And only the newspaper "Zavtra" and Russian villain Nevzorov, as vampires, have clung to it, savouring its horror, aspiring to direct the tornado twirled on Caucasus on hated Kremlin.

Lebed with an iron hand swept away these bloodsuckers, has stopped senseless massacre. Prohanov with the stained with blood mouth, with blunt hatred in eyes looked at him, damning and going crazy.

And now the new war, which is this time warmed up by all telechannels and the majority of printed editions. Now not Nevzorov, but Dorenko and Leontiev, rumbling, speaking hoarsely, belch streams of hatred. In streets of cities people are snatched. Flash, as if lizards, people in the camouflages, feeling the social authority. Terrormania has seized people. The fear, hatred, estrangement, xenofobia, fear of an own shadow - all this makes a reality in which we live due to the second Chechen war.

War rejects a terrible shadow on Russia in which thaw the gains of democracy. With the help of it the martial law in the country is entered.

Even more terrible crime is made against the CIS. Through police war on Caucasus Russia passes the policyof neo-imperialism, bombs the Georgian settlements. Lithuanians fiersly hate them , and Ukrainians hate them too. From her, as from an enraged bear, shrink back in Czechia. All civilized world shrinks back from new Putins Russia!

It is not enough to simply stop such war. It is only a geopolitic derivative of the new Russian swine, wishing to kill real and imaginary terrorists, vagabonds, heterodoxes. In it are united Berezovsky and Nevzorov, Chubais and Prohanov. All of them were alloyed together, having given birth to malicious beast named "Putin" - little Bonapart with a curve smile on cynical lips. Tomorrow he will be "killing" those who has created him, will start social cleaning in the country , will revive methods of extreme management, and Russia as an old whore, will squeal from each trite phrase of this little vermin.

This war should not be stoped, it must be lead up to end.

Up to the end of the Kremlin. Up to the end of Russia. Until the moment, when planes of the NATO will rise in the sky and will finish up what Chechens have not finished.

And Putin - he, I guess will be "killed" in a toilet of the White house even before that.
