"Russia has decided to commit a suicide…"

(The kaleidoscope of the 11 th of April, 1995)

Movladi Udugov: "A session of the Defense Headquarters, at which General Dudaev came out, took place. The application of the Defense Headquarters about the results of four months of the war is issued: 187 settlements of the Chechen Republic are destroyed, 42.500 peace inhabitants are lost. 39 camps of refugees are subjected to air impacts, thus 5800 women, children and old men were lost. 245 settlements are subjected to intensive air bombardment. About 12.000 children have remained orphans, more than 2.000 are crippled. For four months of the war the governmental forces and forces of the national home guard have lost 1230 fighters killed, 2.500 - wounded. For this time losses of the Russian armies have made: about 37.000 killed, more than 65.000 wounded, about 850 units of armored techniques destroyed. Today the army corps in the Chechen Republic total about 200.000 people, more than 5.000 units of armored techniques. The whole potential of the North-Caucasian military district is involved. At the same time the Defense Headquarters declared again: There is not and cannot be any military decision of the conflict, it can be settled only with political means".

D. Metlok (the ambassador of the USA in Russia ) "It is in interests of Russia to stop the war by political means… But if Russia has decided to commit a suicide, we cannot prevent it".

Boris Agapov, the Vice-President of Ingushetia said, "After the captures of Groznyy, Gudermes, Argun, Shali, the war has passed to a new phase, not less bloody – the guerrilla war. The Resistance is everywhere. There is no coordination of small groups yet, there is an interaction only between big formations. The night war is intensified by means of the returned refugees. In the afternoon he is a peace Chechen, at night he is a guerrilla. The whole Chechen Republic turns into a guerrilla camp. Whether it will be necessary to take Groznyy again? - Militaries ask themselves”.

Elena Bonner (from her letter to Clinton ): "… the war has turned to genocide of the Chechen people… Win the eternal gratitude of the Chechen people…"

This is a "picture" of the war. The village Beloreche of the Gudermes region. There are no owners in the houses, to which Russian soldiers, preliminary having cleared of everything, set fire. People are hiding in cellars, but Russians do not look in there, set fire to everything successively. They extort money from the alive, "Give us 50 million, and you will keep your village".

Ahmed Babanov, the inhabitant of the village Beloreche: "On the 11 th of April, I ran away from the village, I saw 11 people killed. Houses were destroyed and burning. Soldiers were walking, as if they had lost the way. They see a good house, approach it, say, that it is an air house, shoot from grenade cup discharges, also shoot into cellars. They talked to someone; there is a red flag on their armored troop-carriers: we shall reach Baku , we shall not stop at you, they are boasting. The Russian flag is on their armored techniques, they catch our cows, cut them, take the meat to Gudermes, sell it for 2.500 for kg, get drunk, shoot at each other; are they anarchists?"

Tactics of Russians: the artillery shoots with dense fierce fire at a village, compressing the ring of destructions. Inhabitants are squeezed out from the village. When there is practically no one in the houses, and inhabitants are leaving, creeping away, the militiamen of special purpose appear.

A "picture" of the war: mountains and foothills: there are blockhouses everywhere. Soldiers are drunk and dirty, they have not bathe for a long time. Drunken soldiers, drunken OMON (the group of militia of special purpose), and drunken special troops –it is a usual phenomenon…

Cattle die because of break of heart. Eardrums of hens burst. Pilots shoot cattle on roads from rockets and machine guns. Saving hatred helps people to overcome fear.

Small children comprehend the science of hatred. 8-years Magomed, the son of commander Vaha from Vedeno: "The main thing for me is that the war would not stop quickly. I shall grow up, and I shall kill Russians". A 14-years teenager from Vedeno is decorated with explosive devices like a New Year tree…

Aslan Mashadov (Shahid, insha Allah!), an unsurpassed strategist, the chief of the Joint Headquarters of the Military Forces of the CRI: "Groznyy, Ermolovka, Achhoi-Martan, Gerzel, Samashki, Argun, Alhan-Yurt, Gudermes… there are fights everywhere, there are groups of resistance. The Russian command wrongly believed or hoped, that when the presidential palace was be captured, the war would stop; if they captured Groznyy, the war would stop. The flat war is not our war. Our task on flat districts was to prove to the whole world that not gangsters, not "Dudaev's supporters", but the people are at war against Russia .

We have not fallen down from the Moon and we know what the Russian army is. Therefore we resisted, but not to death, we do not have such a quantity of soldiers, of weapon. And if we have resisted for three months against such a bulk, it means, we have the right to be named an army. And that we were, ostensibly, dislodged to the mountains, we went there ourselves, even a month ago the plans of withdrawal to the mountains were distributed so, everything was planned beforehand, nobody was dislodged. We have not left any boundary hastily; the withdrawal was carried out according to the plan, the Russian command learned about our withdrawal only in two-three days. The war in mountains is the most effective, antiquated war for us.

The war is not thought up by us, we have not imposed it. The Russian command will be responsible for the barbarous war, I only protect my freedom, and I shall protect, even if they transform everything into ashes!"

Boris Agapov: "There is such a law, the law of communicating vessels. The less losses are here, the more they should be at the opponent. But in struggle against the armed groups of Chechens this law is inefficient: fighters sit out in special shelters, expecting for motor-infantry to appear in reach of shooting. Spontaneity of appearing of guerrilla groups across the whole Chechen Republic has puzzled the Russian command, it is impossible to predict, to foresee independence of their activity".

A "picture" of the war: Shali: marauding and robbery are on the industrial basis. In the afternoon patrols by armored troop-carrier shoot dogs near empty houses, at night they pull out everything from the houses: carpets, electronics, building materials, the foodstuffs. Officers begin; the rest, "dust", is taken by soldiers. General searches come to an end with robberies. The public from the Ministry of Internal Affairs is deranged and severe.

… The 11 th of April, 2005 . 10 years have passed after the dotted with lines, described above day. Everything is the same. Some people defend the Independence and the Right to live according to the Laws of Allah; others plunder and kill, kill and plunder, according to the law of the Satan! Russia has decided to ruin its country!
