Chechen Times: Failed Tour Of “a Superhero”

Failed tour of “a superhero”

It turned out “Chechnya’s prosecutor” Vladimir Kravchenko has passions for a high literary style. In one of his recent statements he said the following: “We have information that leaders of terrorists are planning a number of large-scale terrorist acts during this summer period to attract attention to themselves. They have called this period “Fiery summer.”

It has been known for a long time already that during the period of the so-called “verdure” (spring, summer and most autumn) the Chechen Resistance becomes more active and Kravchenko’s “brilliant conclusions” did not sound new to the Russian military. In this sense, Kravchenko is a bad story-teller. However, he managed to invent an impressive name – “Fiery summer” — to the trite subject thereby making his invention “the news number 1.” And Alkhanov could not help reacting to it. He had to straighten out “the prosecutor” with irritation.

Of course, Alkhanov admits the fact that “rebels do not give up attempts to complicate the situation in the republic,” but “they are unlikely to succeed in it.” Anyway, if we mean “serious actions.” In general, according to Alkhanov, “federal forces and law enforcement bodies have enough resources and possibilities to keep the situation under control and to maintain a tendency to its improvement which is taking shape in Chechnya. ”

Gosha Kutsenko, a new star of the modern Russian cinema and television, who has repeatedly played in films “about the Chechen war” as a fearless fighter against “international terrorism” or as a “mean international terrorist,” felt this “tendency to improvement which is taking shape.” Finally, the actor’s “talent” was wanted at the place which he has virtually “visited many times.” He had been invited to give a concert to soldiers and officers at the Russian military base in Chechnya. Kutsenko and other actors, cinema-experts on Chechnya, were taken to Khankala under a heavy guard. The Khankala base is very close to the airport where a group of actors arrived. Suddenly their column was attacked (!) on this “well known” to Russian troops road, at the peak of “peaceful life,” in the daytime, (not at night!), not high in the mountains, almost in the city, close to the major federal military base.

Unlike “prosecutor” Kravchenko, Gosha Kutsenko has no literary abilities and declined to describe what had happened to him. but he is an actor, and Kutsenko made a brilliant display of his talent in a short phrase: “we got into a hell, I do not want to remember about it.” Secret services managed to repel the attack after additional military armor arrived. Clearly, the concert was canceled and the frightened to death “superhero” of cinema and television was taken to North Ossetia by a battle helicopter. “God forbid [people from such horror]!” – Gosha Kutsenko said upon his return from “the tour.” It is unknown whether he meant only Russian servicemen or he also thought about Chechens, who have been forced to live in such conditions during the past decade. However, now we can suppose that Kutsenko’s next roles in films about the Chechen war will be less persuasive.

The story of Kutsenko’s failed tour hasn’t been made public. The official position of the Kremlin on the coverage of the situation in Chechnya has remained unchanged during the past years: only “peaceful,” although the most idiotic news go on air: e.g. the opening of an aquapark in the republic where 99% of the population has not only faced problems with water supply, but almost forgotten the meaning of the word “running water.”

That’s why Kravchenko’s “news” about an impending “Fiery summer” could not but cause Alkhanov’s irritation who understands that without stories about “a stable normal situation” he can hardly attract western investors to Chechnya. And for the image of Putin such news cannot be considered favorable. After the statement of “Chechnya’s prosecutor” Russian TV channels hurried to report that “the situation remains under control,” quoting Alkhanov and Kadyrov who have promised to turn Chechnya into a model Russian region in the near future. Will actor Kutsenko believe in these stories?
