April, 12, 2005 Ramzan Kadyrov in the rank of "a silver pigeon" Only a naive person can think indeed, that founders of the premium "The Silver pigeon", among which also the Russian Academy of natural sciences is registered, have independently come to the conclusion about necessity of its delivery to "the first vice-premier of the Chechen Republic" Ramzan Kadyrov, whose intellectual level is well-known. If to believe in voluntariness of such a fantastic decision, it is necessary to assume, that Russian academicians have strongly become worn out in the sphere of science and slightly gone mad. However everything is not so simple - with Putin's coming to the highest Russian authority, as well as during the period of the USSR, all similar problems began to be solved… with a phone call from the Kremlin. The given case is far from being the first one in Putin's practice. About two years ago Putin pushed ... >> full

14.04.2005 Changing priorities The EU delegation headed by European Commission Director for Eastern Europe Hugus Mingarelli visited the Chechen capital yesterday. According to the Russian daily Kommersant, pro-Moscow Chechen “authorities” made it clear to the guests they were expected to do more than just offer humanitarian aid. Europeans promised to direct money to restore the republic’s social sphere. «The main goal of our mission at the North Caucasus is to consider the possibility of transition from providing humanitarian aid to assistance in economic restoration of Ingushetia," Mingarelli said. He added that the EU would continue to offer humanitarian aid, although, they «would like to help the process of economic restoration of North Caucasus outside the limits of the aid." At the same time Mingarelli refused to name the concrete volume of money, which the EU is willing to share with the republic. «It is still too early to name any concrete figures, right now ... >> full

15.04.2005 Failed tour of “a superhero” It turned out “Chechnya’s prosecutor” Vladimir Kravchenko has passions for a high literary style. In one of his recent statements he said the following: “We have information that leaders of terrorists are planning a number of large-scale terrorist acts during this summer period to attract attention to themselves. They have called this period “Fiery summer.” It has been known for a long time already that during the period of the so-called “verdure” (spring, summer and most autumn) the Chechen Resistance becomes more active and Kravchenko’s “brilliant conclusions” did not sound new to the Russian military. In this sense, Kravchenko is a bad story-teller. However, he managed to invent an impressive name – “Fiery summer” — to the trite subject thereby making his invention “the news number 1.” And Alkhanov could not help reacting to it. He had to straighten out “the prosecutor” with irritation. Of course, Alkhanov admits ... >> full
