On September 30, the All-Russian Congress of the oppositional coalition "The Other Russia" advanced United Civil Front leader Gary Kasparov as their united nominee for President of Russia. Of 498 votes, he received 379. The congress also advanced 365 candidates for State Deputy in the Russian Duma.
The first three on the list were former Chairman of Tsentrobank of Russia, Victor Gerashchenko, Gary Kasparov, and leader of the banned National- Bolshevik Party, Edward Limonov. Others entered on the list were Executive Director of the movement "For Human Rights" Lev Ponomarev, Attorney Yuri Schmidt, writer and journalist Dmitriy Bykov, and director of the Institute of Globalization Issues, Mikhail Delyagin.
Selections were based on lists of candidates for State Duma and President of Russia, accepted at regional opposition conferences. "The Other Russia" Secretary, Ludmila Mamina, reported to a correspondent of PRIMA- News that on October 1, the list of candidates for deputy was turned in to the Central Election Commission of Russia. The representatives of commission promised to inform them of registration status by October 2. According to Russian election legislation, participating in Duma elections is the right of only those political parties who registered at the beginning of election campaign. "The Other Russia" does not contain such parties.
